1, 2, 3, of Buying Baby Stuff
There is so much stuff available for babies and, at times, it can be a little confusing, especially for first time parents. What does a baby need and what do you just want to buy for her?
It can be very tempting to go out on a shopping spree buying anything that has a picture of a baby on it and once baby comes along you may realize you have forgotten some of the most important basics for baby.
While there are necessities, there is also baby stuff that will make your life easier and make baby happier as she grows. So let’s take a look at baby stuff that you need for the first years of baby’s life.
When baby first comes home, she will need the very basics like clothing, such as romper suits, socks, singlets and sleep wear, as she grows you will need more clothing. Diapers are also important. Even if you are using cloth diapers, try to keep a packet of disposable diapers on hand for emergencies or outings. Baby will also need disposable or cloth wipes, washcloths, baby wash and towels for bathing.
You will also need a place for baby to sleep, like a cradle and, as she gets older, a cot. Make sure that you have bedding such as sheets and a number of blankets, especially if it gets cold. If you are bottle-feeding, make sure that you have plenty of bottles and formula on hand. You may want to try pacifiers for in between feedings and don’t forget to include a few burp cloths to avoid messy situations.
Baby will also need some furniture other than a bassinet and cot. Car seats are important if you travel anywhere by car and a stroller that lays back as well as sits up is also important and will save you carrying baby all the time. High chairs are an important part of meal times for baby as she grows, as well as eating utensils such as plastic bowls and soft-touch spoons for feeding.
Playtime is vital to the development of your baby and toys should never be dismissed as just wants. Toys that are educational should be included in your list of must-have baby stuff. A baby monitor is also important, especially if your baby is sleeping in another room. As baby gets older and more mobile, she will need aids such as a potty for toilet training, as well as some safety gear such as baby gates, especially if you have stairs or places in the home that aren’t safe for her.
Make sure to have diaper rash ointments, gripe water, thermometers, baby panadol, teething gels and rusks on hand and stored safely to ease any discomfort baby may be feeling. Anticipating the arrival of a new baby is a very exciting time and if you have all of the necessities to care for her once she arrives, you will be organized and ready to enjoy her.
